Unfortunately I don’t have any footage of it, but yesterday my horse got super happy. The wind was cold which made it feel colder than it actually was, he is clipped (for the 3rd time this winter), and we were going to do stuff he loves to do. It will always be a jumpng horse who has some talent for dressage as well.
I placed some poles 3 meters apart. ‘In uitjes’ we call that in Dutch, they are placed so that you can canter over them. So, first we did them in walk and trot which meant he needed to think about how to place his feet since the distance is for a canter. He got more and more excited. Then it was time for the canter. He went over the poles as if they were cavaletti’s or smal cross jumps. He also started pulling towards the poles more and more and when we cleared them he would shake his head and make small happy jumps. He was over the moon!
Then we made a small cross with a trot pole in front and a canter pole behind. The first few times he also went through it as a bouncing pony, cutting the corner and making more happy jumps. I just let him do him, if he want to do happy jumps because he is having the time of his life, I will let him make happy jumps. I could not stop smiling noticing how much fun he was having. Just by simply cantering a few poles.
There was no flexion around my inside leg and corners were not an option, but the purpose of this training was just to have fun with my horse. And my horse? He was having the most fun of all.
I do have a video of a line where he was a very good boy after all the happy jumps. Filming the entire session next time ;)
