So, yesterday we had another press conference. Naturally, the details had already leaked (they can learn from the Fort Knox protocols The Masked Singer enforces). They were going to enforce a stricter lockdown due to the fact the new and improved highly contagious version of COVID-19. Don’t get me wrong, I am very cautious. Especially looking at the year I have had. But it is not that the virus magically dissapears after 5pm and making people do everything before then makes any sense. It just creates more crowded places. It makes it difficult to find a quiet moment to do your shopping or train your horse. In addition, I think our sport is a bit of an exception. It is a individual sport. As in you train with your horse, not with any other people within a 1,5 meter circle. All these regulations just push is to be in the the arena with 10 people at a time or more, which in my opinion is the opposite of what needs to be achieved. People need to work during the day and leaves a small window to train your horse. Often the same window as everyone else. Now, with this stricter lockdown we are forced to ride in the outside arena (I actually chose to house my horse at a stable that has an indoor option, we pay for that option) while our horses are super duper happy and hot headed this season. It will even freeze next week and get a lot colder. Very responsible enforcing these rules. I sometimes wonder why they look at everything as if it is one whole. Why not dive into the different sports etc to look at what works best for them. Might be working with reserving time slots again to regulate the amount of customers? A team sport is way different from an individual one (or as a duo with your horse).
I was supposed to go jumping today, a competition. They was a lot of unclarity yesterday about what would and would not be possible. There was not much, or any communication from the organizer either. After the press conference it indeed became clear competitions were out of the question. I emailed them got a response this time saying it was going to be converted to a ‘meetmoment’ (a competition without ranking, but you can get your points to level up). All good, till I saw that those were not allowed either by the KNHS. What to do? Go and risk a check (with fines) or that your results will not be accepted by the KNHS. Or decide not to go. I slept on it and decided (after not getting a response from the organization on the ‘meetmomenten’ not being allowed either) to the responsible thing and not go. So, I notified them I wanted to sign out. Didn’t feel right going. It could have easily worked looking at our sport, you are riding your course alone. But the rules where clear: not allowed.
There migt be ‘meetmomenten’ again which are approved by the KNHS for jumping or it migth become possible to send in online dressage tests for the higher classes (would need to rent a 60m arena for that as well). I just hope I can go the my next jumping competition 16th of January. New year, new chances. Now I need to mentally prepare myself for this lockdown, thank goodness we can still train and take care of our horses.
P.s. It is only a week till Christmas! So, if you are still looking for a perfect gift, take a look in the shop. If you live near Utrecht I will personally deliver your package before Christmas. Pick up upon appointment is also possible.
