Deze week in de wekelijkse uitgelicht blog: de veulenmodule. Met deze module is het idee voor de Equestrian Journal ontstaan. De module is bedoeld voor fokkers en veuleneigenaren die het gehele proces willen documenteren.  

Fokkers kunnen een journal maken per merrie, dus dat er meerdere veulenmodules in de journal komen. Op die manier ontstaat er een naslagwerk omtrent de fokmerrie en haar veulens. Leuk om patronen te ontdekken en om foto’s van de gehele pedigree bij elkaar te hebben. 
Een andere optie is om een veulenmodule bij te houden en die mee te geven bij verkoop aan de nieuwe eigenaar. Op die manier krijgt de eigenaar extra informatie en foto’s van het proces omtrent het voortraject van hun nieuwe geliefde viervoeter, hoe leuk is dat!  

De module bestaat uit de volgende bladen: 

Een tabblad 
Zodat de module makkelijk terug te vinden is indien er meer modules gebonden zijn. 

Algemene Informatie Merrie
Op de voorzijde van dit blad kan alle informatie rondom de merrie waarmee gefokt gaat worden, worden ingevuld. Uiteraard is er ruimte voor een foto en blokjes om de sterke en verbeterpunten op te schrijven. Op de achterzijde is het mogelijk de stamboom van de merrie in te vullen. 

Hengsten
Dit blad is voor de hengstenkeuze. Bovenaan de pagina kunnen de verschillende hengsten die passen bij de merrie worden genoteerd. En uiteraard ruimte voor de naam en foto van de uiteindelijk gekozen hengst. De achterzijde van dit blad is leeg zodat hier overige informatie omtrent de hengst kan worden genoteerd. Resultaten, fokwaarden, of een foto van de vader. Ruimte om zelf in te vullen! 

Aftellen
De checklist van inseminatiedatum tot en met de geboorte van het veulen. Vink elke mijlpaal af en aan de rechterkant is ruimte voor extra opmerkingen per mijlpaal. De achterzijde van dit blad bevat een handige checklist omtrent de geboorte. Deze is uiteraard zelf aan te vullen met punten die belangrijk zijn om te onthouden die voor de merrie en het ongeboren veulen van belang zijn. 

Fotobladen
Voor elke mijlpaal is er een fotoblad beschikbaar. Voor de echo, buikfoto’s van mijlpalen tijdens de dracht en niet te vergeten een plek voor een foto van het pasgeboren veulen. Een visueel verslag van de dracht! Op de achterzijde van de geboren foto is het mogelijk de stamboom van het veulen in te vullen.  

Namen
Hier kan worden gebrainstormd over de naam van het toekomstige veulen.  

Groeilijst
4 kolommen om de groei van het veulen bij te houden. Frequentie van meten kan helemaal zelf worden bepaald. Het eerste jaar zullen ze het hardst groeien, waardoor de frequentie van meten wellicht hoger ligt dan in de jaren daarna.  

Wormbeleid
Op deze pagina is het mogelijk (eventueel in overleg met uw dierenarts) een ontwormingsschema op te stellen. Ook is er ruimte om de resultaten van mestonderzoek te noteren. De achterzijde is leeg zodat u zelf overige informatie kan toevoegen indien nodig.  

Notitiebladen en lege fotobladen
De module bevat ook 5 lege bladen ter eigen invulling die overal in het journal in te voegen zijn alsmede 5 lege extra fotobladen. Wellicht een foto van de opa’s en oma’s of leuke foto’s van het veulen die je wilt toevoegen bij de groeipagina. Voldoende ruimte voor eigen invulling en creativiteit.

This week in the featured blog: the foal module. The idea for the Equestrian Journal origiated from this module. It is meant for breeders and foal owners who would like to document the entire process.  

Breeders can create a journal per mare, so that way multiple foal modules will be in the journal. This way a cool reference book will be created on the breeding mare and all her foals. Could be a fun way to discover any patterns and to have pictures of the entire pedigree in one journal. 
Another option is to fill the foal module to give to the new owner when sellling the foal. This way the new owner gets to see the entire process before the transfer, including pictures of the foal and his mum, how cool is that!

A tab
This way you can find the module easily when there are more modules in the journal. 

General information on the mare
On the front side you can enter all the information on the breeding mare. Naturally there will be room for a picture as well as designated areas to name the best parts of your mare and the parts you want to improve.  

Stallions
This page is for the stallion choice. On top of the page, you can brainstorm on stallions who would fit your mare. Bottom provides room for the name and picture of the chosen one. Back of the page is empty, so you can use that to add any additional information regarding the stallion. Results, breeding values, or a picture of his dad. Enough room to be creative! 

Count down
This page has a check list from insemination date to the birth date. You can check every mile stone and, on the right, there is room for notes. The backside has a check list of things to remember before and after the birth. You can add any additional things that are important to remember regarding your mare and foal.  

Picture pages
There is a picture page for every milestone. For the sonogram, belly pictures and most important the picture page for the new born foal. This way you create a visual reference book! On the backside of the new born foal page you can enter the pedigree.  

Names
On this page you can brainstorm names for your foal.  

Grow list
4 columns to keep track of your foal’s growth. Frequency of entering data is all up to you. They will grow a lot in the first year, so the frequency of measuring might be higher than in the years to follow.  

Worm policy
On this page it is possible to determine a deworming schedule (perhaps in collaboration with your vet). There also is room to enter any results from manure testing. The backside is empty so you can add any information necessary.  

Notes pages and empty photo pages
This module also comes with 5 empty pages you can use and fill any way you like, as well as 5 empty photo pages. Perhaps to add pictures of the foals’ grandsires or -dames, or fun pictures of your foal you would like to add to the growing page. Enough room for your creativity.
